Lane Line Up (5-8 year olds)

Hello GVST Parents (of 5-8 year olds),
We now have three meets under our belt this season, so you and your kiddos should be well-acquainted with lane line-up. The kids are doing great, and we need your help to ensure we are well-organized and on deck on-time for their events.
To help the Lane Line-up volunteers, please keep in mind the following:
• We begin lane line-up for the 5-8 year olds about FIVE (5) events ahead of the first 5-6 year olds event. For example, Events 13-16 are 25yd freestyle (boys and girls) for ages 5-8. So, we need ALL 5-8 year olds who are swimming in those events to come to lane line-up when we announce it.
• We need to LEAVE the lane line-up area AT LEAST one event ahead of time to ensure all the swimmers are on deck on-time.
• If your child is swimming in a relay, it is imperative that they show up on-time for lane line-up. If they do not show up, they will impact the other swimmers that are participating in the event as their team will be disqualified.
• If your child is in the Medley Relay (first events of the meet), they should plan on heading to the tent around 8:30am to line-up.
• If your child is scheduled to participate in a relay, and due to unforeseen circumstances will not be swimming, please tell Coach Adam.
• Lastly, when we call for Lane line-up, please have your kiddo stand in the area in front of the lane line-up mats and we will call them one by one. We have found this to be a far more efficient method of organization (read: herding the cats).
We realize there is some waiting involved during the lane line-up process, but the kiddos can wear their jackets or robes to stay warm until they begin walking up to the deck. Besides, they really do enjoy each other’s company on the mats!
Lastly, if you know your swimmer‘s number, which stays constant throughout the season, feel free to write your swimmer‘s last name and number vertically (in black sharpie) on their upper left arm prior to arriving at the meet. For check-in, just stop by the lane line-up area so that we can check them in.
